Tobago athletes secured eight of this country’s 22 medals at the 46th annual CARIFTA Games in Curacao, which concluded yesterday (April 17, 2017).
Trinidad and Tobago earned seven gold, five silver and ten bronze medals to finish second on the medals table behind winners Jamaica and ahead of Bahamas (third).
Zenith’s Tyriq Horsford claimed gold in the Boys under-18 javelin throw event for the third consecutive year breaking his Carifta record of 76.50 metres.
Assemblyman Jomo Pitt, Secretary of the Division of Sport and Youth Affairs congratulated the athletes. The Secretary said the Division will its support for the island’s sporting bodies “that give our athletes the tools to be successful”.
