He ventured into the competitive arena at the tender age of five years old and won the 2009 N.J.A.C’s Annual Emancipation Calypso Competition. In 2010 he won the T.U.C.O’s National Junior Calypso Monarch creating history as the youngest ever to win that prestigious title at only six years old.
His name is Aaron Duncan.
Many avenues for the six-year-old champ and exposed him to the media and many celebrities. In 2011, Aaron teamed up with Soca King Machel Montano to shoot a commercial for Sunshine Snacks under local advertisement agency, Corbin Communications which he was then known as the ‘Mini Machel’. Aaron continued to win several titles in the years to come. He captured the National Junior Calypso Monarch back to back in 2011 and 2012 making the record of three consecutive years, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2010 and 2012, he was awarded one of The Top 20 Stars of Tomorrow for his Excellence and Outstanding achievements by the National Youth and Action Committee. The award was entitled, “An Inspiration to our nation’s youth.” Along with the Junior Calypso Monarch competition, he also won the National Junior Soca Monarch in 2012 and he performed in Soca Monarch alongside Patrice Roberts and also did his own solo performance with his 2012 Soca, ‘Carnival Ah Home.’ Every year Aaron travels, performs and represents Trinidad internationally in London, Toronto, New York, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Barbados. He also performed for the USA President of State, Mr. Baden Powell and was also part of the ‘Going for Gold’ album alongside Machel Montano and was honoured in the City of Boston. In 2012, he won The Express Youth of the Year.
In 2013, his first attempt in the Chutney arena proved successful and won the National Junior Chutney Soca Monarch to add to his genre domination
In 2015, Aaron won the National Junior Calypso Monarch title for the fourth time; he also regained his National Junior Chutney title for the 3rd consecutive year and regained his N.J.A.C’s Junior Calypso Monarch title for the 6th consecutive time. Consistency at its best. He was also nominated and won the National Youth Awards 2015 for Arts and Culture.
In 2016, he returned to the Soca arena with his newest songs, ‘Can You Feel It’ which has been blasting through the airways. He performed all over the world with this song, also performing in local fetes like Machel Monday and BaeWatch. Internationally, he travelled to places like Belize, New York, Antigua, St. Vincent etc. Many say that 2016 was one of Aaron’s best year in his career.
For the 2017 carnival season, Aaron started off with his first soca for the year, ‘Mega Vybz’ a song written by him and Rayza Saga, produced by Stadic Music which has already taken off with great airplay in the Caribbean and Internationally. He then released a Power Soca that was written by him and produced by Andrew ‘Hitz’ Phillip. The hit single’s name is Born Ready which has already surpassed 500,000 views; another victory to add with his 4 Million views on ‘Can You Feel It.’ Aaron has travelled to a number of countries this year ; St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Barbados, Grenada, New York, Connecticut, Toronto, just to name a few..
2018, Aaron starts off his carnival season with his new track, entitled, ‘Better Days.’ He also won the award for Soca & Soca Performer of the Year – he’s now representing the Caribbean as the TTCME’s Soca Performer with the soca song of the year, Born Ready.
Aaron remains grounded despite his success and continues to pursue both his musical passion and academics with equal vigor. He attends St.Georges College. A versatile, spirited and gifted young boy, Aaron without a doubt is an ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago.
