For three days, Tobago celebrated October Carnival from October 27th to 29th with a mix of culture, costumes and vibrant colours. The event celebrated unique folk traditions and heritage, along with the sounds of steel pans, which are distinctively Trinidadian and Tobagonian.
The carnival had several standout events, including the Tobago Soca Titans Competition, Rhythm, Steel and Powder, and the TUCO Legends Showcase. There were also various activities, including the J’ouvert festivities. Scarborough was the central location for most of the events for Tobago’s Carnival 2023, such as the parade of the bands and the Festival Grounds at the Esplanade, which were better equipped to handle the volume of people who wanted to participate.
The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation aimed to increase local participation and corporate sponsorship, which was achieved. Many people from Trinidad also supported the island’s Carnival in a big way. Tashia Burris, the Secretary of the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation, who was a guest on the Tobago Updates morning show, indicated that events were better executed this year, setting a good foundation for next year’s staging.
