At just 27 and on the brink of his 28th birthday, Josiah Santana, aka Johes, is making waves in the Trinidad and Tobago music scene with his debut Soca single, Numb. Hailing from Tabaquite and now living in San Juan, this strikingly handsome artist is here to show the world that music is more than entertainment—it’s therapy for the soul.

Johes wrote Numb as a personal anthem to remind everyone about the importance of mental rest and rejuvenation. “Life gets overwhelming, and I want my music to help people recharge and feel alive again,” he shared.

A Musical Journey Rooted in Family and Passion

Born into a musical family, Johes grew up surrounded by melodies and rhythms. “Music is in our blood,” he says. “Family and loved ones come first for me, and their support has been amazing on this journey.”

Though he wasn’t exposed to the full Carnival experience as a child, Johes now champions its value for self-expression. “Carnival is all about freedom. I think kids should have the chance to discover themselves through the festival’s many art forms. Whether it’s pan, dance, or even stick-fighting, there’s something for everyone.”

From School Stages to the Big Leagues

Johes honed his talents in school competitions like San Fest and later studied education and dance at UWI’s Department of Creative and Festival Arts. “That background gave me a solid understanding of movement and performance,” he explained.

Inspired by legends like Ras Shorty I, Machel Montano, Kees, and Mical Teja, Johes blends the soul of Calypso with the energy of Soca. His debut single, Numb, is a groovy, high-energy track produced by Stephon Gabriel. “Finding the right producer who understood my vision took time, but Stephon’s patience and guidance made all the difference,” he said.

A Song with a Mission

Numb isn’t just a party tune—it’s a heartfelt message for those battling mental health challenges. “This song is a call to action,” Johes said. “I want people to take a moment to escape the stress, embrace the vibrance of life, and recharge.”

As Carnival 2025 heats up, Johes is diving in headfirst with optimism and a supportive crew of family and friends cheering him on. “One of my biggest fears is not connecting with the audience, but I hope they feel the story behind my music.”

With Numb, Johes aims to heal and inspire, proving that music truly has the power to transform lives. “Music has always been my safe space, and I want to create that space for others.”
