The dynamic CRP Theatre Production Company is back with another hit! From June 21-23, 2024, they presented “Ridiculous 6 and a Half” at the Central Bank Auditorium. This production showcases the powerhouse talents of Cecilia Salazar, Penelope Spencer, Ro’dey, and Sharon Cumberbatch as the production team.

Penelope Spencer, who not only wrote and directed but also stars in the play, shines as Petra. Cecilia Salazar captivates as Dr. Elizabeth Harrington, Ro’dey entertains as Randy, George Gonzales delivers as Gerad, Arnold ‘Pinny’ Goindhan charms as Mr. Roberts, Kearn Samuel engages as Dave, and Aaron Schneider inspires as Tina.

An Enthralling Experience

Attending the Friday, June 21st performance, the audience and I were fully immersed in this comedic masterpiece. The laid-back atmosphere and welcoming ushers made the night even more enjoyable. The stage, set as a doctor’s office, resonated with authentic Trini wit and humor, weaving an intricate web of “bacchanal” and “mové lang” that kept us all enthralled and continuously laughing.

Stellar Performances

  • Cecilia Salazar as Dr. Elizabeth Harrington: Portraying a therapist with her own relationship turmoil, Salazar’s performance is a reminder that even professionals face personal challenges.
  • Penelope Spencer as Petra: Spencer’s performance was top-notch, managing to elicit laughter even in the face of a on-stage fall which I still don’t know it was acting or real.
  • Ro’dey as Randy: Ro’dey’s portrayal of a multi-personality character was a highlight, showcasing his prowess in depicting multiple characters with mental health struggles.
  • George Gonzales as Gerad: His quest to transform was made poignant by Gonzales’ deep dive into his character’s internal battles.
  • Arnold ‘Pinny’ Goindhan as Mr. Roberts: Starting intoxicated, Goindhan’s character journey was a poignant narrative about overcoming inner demons.
  • Kearn Samuel as Dave: Dealing with sexual issues, Samuel’s character found hope through therapy, a crucial message for the audience.
  • Aaron Schneider as Tina: Schneider’s transformation journey was moving and powerful, beautifully depicting the path to self-discovery and acceptance.

Impact and Message

“Ridiculous 6 and a Half” is more than just a comedy. It’s an emotional roller-coaster that highlights mental health issues faced by many. As June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, this play is a timely reminder of the importance of seeking help. The production powerfully conveys that relief and support are available and necessary.

Final Thoughts

This production earns a solid five out of five stars. It brought me to tears and had me laughing uncontrollably. It’s a mirror to our society, reflecting the hidden traumas many face and reminding us of the support available. Don’t miss out on “Ridiculous 6 and a Half” – it’s a remarkable blend of humor and heartfelt messages.
