The Trincity Times Community News met up with Trincity Nationals, where passion meets purpose under the steadfast leadership of Joel Warrick. As founder, head coach, CEO, and president, Joel Warrick has nurtured an environment of growth and opportunity in Trinidad’s vibrant sporting landscape for three decades. In 1994, the Trincity Nationals were born out of a dream to harness young talent and propel them toward national and international success. Today, we proudly celebrate our 30th anniversary, having impacted the lives of countless young athletes.

 A Legacy of Development

At Trincity Nationals, we are committed to developing amateur talent and fostering their abilities with the hope they will achieve national and international recognition. While we lack professional funding, we make up for it with dedication, grit, and a vision of helping our players secure scholarships to further their studies at institutions such as the University of the West Indies or universities abroad.

Our achievement speaks volumes. Former players have reached impressive heights, with alumni like Tyrese Spicer being drafted as the number one MLS pick in 2023 and playing professionally with Toronto FC. Cordell Cato, another alumnus, has made his mark with the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS. On the girls’ side, Katie Johnson is shining in France’s professional leagues.

A Foundation Built on Family and Community

The success of Trincity Nationals extends beyond the soccer field. It is rooted in a strong family ethos and unwavering community support. Joel’s family plays a pivotal role, with his daughters Cheryl Warrick, an experienced coach and former national player, and his wife and son engaged in management and training.

Parental support remains the backbone of our success. Encouraging their children to embrace positive activities in a safe environment counteracts today’s distractions and uncertainties. Our Thursday evenings and Saturday training sessions allow aspiring athletes to hone their skills amidst a supportive community.

 Future Aspirations and Opportunities

The journey continues as we set our sights on the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Tournament in Orlando, Florida. Having participated in 2019, where our teams showcased remarkable talent, we aim to build on that success. As we prepare for this exciting challenge, we are reaching out for corporate partnerships and support to ensure our young athletes have every opportunity to shine on the international stage.

Join us as we nurture talent from the grassroots level to the pinnacle of success. The Trincity Nationals remain steadfast in our mission to shape the future of young athletes and provide them with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the field.
